I hope your fever goes away too. Otherwise it might make you hallucinate and decide the Tubbies aren't so bad after all. And they're evil. Really, really evil.

Jane - 2004-01-29 08:44:13
The Tubbies are insidious and resistance is futile. Before day's end you will be smiling fondly at them.

Yeah. Kids are insane. Everybody should be able to see that that baby sun is crazy. They don't really talk either. And the TV tummy thing. Yeah. Creepy. But if it works for your kid.. Hope he grows out of it..

I think each parent has a show that their kid watchs that drives them insane. My husband can't stand "Dragon Tales" or the Wiggles, and I pretty much think Telletubbies are the anti-christ around here. We kind of influenced our son's choice just a tiny bit with "Hey, lets watch a cool show like Little Bear or Stanley!" I have a pretty high pain thresh-hold, and Telle-Tubbies topped the chart immediately. Thankfully he isn't attached to too many shows or movies, so we haven't been subjected to watching some Disney movie 10 times in a day. Thank god, thank god, thank god. Hope you feel better soon UB!

Teletubbies freak me out too. They make no sense whatsoever! And what's with them showing the clips twice in a row? By the way, is Andrew still watching that Blue's CLues video? I can't find that one anywhere and I'm sick of Colors Everywhere and Shape Searchers.

hillary - 2004-01-29 09:35:22
Teletubbies are for 1-year-olds, Andrew should be liking the Boobahs, which looks to be even more trippy. http://www.usatoday.com/life/television/news/2004-01-19-boohbahs_x.htm

Glad you're up to even updating us on your condition. How's Susie hanging in there?

Wendyloo - 2004-01-29 10:32:30
Oh just wait, there's a brand new show that looks like it might be just as evil...it's Boohbah on PBS my link takes you to the webpage.

No, no, no - 2004-01-29 10:37:27
That baby-head looks like Dubya impersonating Apollo, the Sun God. Or after somebody has nuked his head. Aren't you worried about the insidious influence of the purple teletubbie on Andrew?

Lori - 2004-01-29 11:04:09
UH OH!!!! Just make yourself some Tubby toast and it will make you all better!! ;p I hated when my kids went through that phase. Thank God it only lasted for a couple of weeks before they realized what freaks those things were!

Uncle Bob, I thought I would message you to ask if it's at all possible that you and Andrew have come down with the Norwalk virus? I know it was around a year or 2 ago but someone that I know is currently treating 2 of her 3 children for it. They are puking like volcanos as well, with diarrhea, and her young daughter even had a couple of seizures as a result of the extremely high fever. It's really scary to know that it's still around...

The thing about babies is that they fail to see evil where it lurks...They only see all that is good in life. They don't understand evil, so they don't fear it. So they can watch Teletubbies without the fear of death.

April Ann - 2004-01-29 11:53:27
What little boy doesn't watch Bob the Builder? I swear, this world is geared for Disney and PBS. No one watches Nickelodeon any more. Except Blue's Clues. Yeah.

Ari - 2004-01-29 12:16:03
Teletubbies are EVIL! I suggest you contact one of your local religious practitioners to have your TV and your child exorcised.

Trance - 2004-01-29 12:40:46
That show is so fucking freaky. The only thing I like is the little vaccuum cleaner guy. The laughing baby just suggests some evil cult.

Steph - 2004-01-29 13:00:00
My son Charlie is nuts about the tubbies but we can't take it anymore, what with all that tubby toast and tubby custard. Also what is up with that robot nuunuu that cleans up all their messes for them. Wish I could get me a nuunuu of my own! Thank god Charlie no has a new favourite - Rolie Polie Olie. At least I can take that.

La Penseuse - 2004-01-29 14:04:31
I watched that show once for like 10 minutes when it first came on and I swear I'm still having nightmares about it, so I have no idea how the hell kids enjoy this show... I have this immense fear that if I enter a room similar to that one that looks like someone on crack designed a playplace for McDonald's that Tinky Winky is gonna rape my ass or suck out my brains with a straw like in Attack of the Killer Clowns or something... it's freaky and just plain wrong. Each generation has its demonic show. For us it was Barney and Baby-Bop. "I love you, you love me, let's hang Barney from a tree"

Gerry - 2004-01-29 16:47:16
The Telletubbies are incredibly frightening, true, but that show is so much more entertaining when stoned. I suggest you try it. On another note, I have a suggestion for future programming for your son. I've been making my nephews watch some pretty violent movies. "Dawn of the Dead", "Jaws" and "RoboCop" are great ones to start with. Why? The more they see, the faster they are desensitized to violence. And that means they'll hate crap like the Telletubbies that much faster. Besides, wouldn't it be great to bond with Andrew while watching "Reservoir Dogs", "Pulp Fiction", or "Scarface"?

cosmicrayola - 2004-01-29 17:24:09
I posted an "Ode to the Tellytubbies" back awhile ago. "http://cosmicrayola.diaryland.com/020112_68.html I should have posted it in suck-ass poems. Maybe then you wold have read it and grabbed that remote! They are psychotic evil gremlins! If you ever want to see them in action, rent the movie, "The Brood" with Tom Poston. It's a 60's or 70's movie that I swear gave them the idea for these creatures.

My first experience with the Teletubbies was high on pot brownies. It was 2:30 AM, I was flipping through our lowly broadcast channels, and this colorful monstrosity on PBS caught my eye. I was absolutely horrified, but I COULDN'T STOP WATCHING. Why the Dallas PBS station thought it would be a good idea to show that scary show at 2:30 in the morning is still beyond me.
-------------------------------
Morgan - 2004-01-29 19:43:50
They show it then because NOBODY wants to see it and because the little ones are in bed and won't watch it while they sleep. It's totally a win-win situation. And the Boohbahs.. those look scarier than the teletubbies. I'm so glad I was in the Barney generation. At least dinosaurs were real..

UB, you know I laughed when you joked about cheating on your wife, killing your dog, your mother in law, your kid and your wife but posting pictures of discombobulated baby heads on fire is just too much!

MDMD - 2004-01-29 20:35:47
I made the mistake of turning on the Boohbahs the first day they aired (I turned on PBS for Jay Jay and got the Boohbahs instead)and, unfortunately, my almost 2 year old son thought the show was hilarious. It was as scary and evil as the Teletubbies. Just a warning UB! Don't watch the Boohbahs!

Uncle Bob, I have to say I have been reading your diary for a while! I really enjoy it! I hope your fever goes away soon! Is your son feeling better? Feel better soon! Teletubbies are evil!

Teletubbies wouldn't be so bad if they, just occasionaly, speared and cooked up one of those stupid rabbits that are always hanging around

ell - 2004-01-31 01:20:21
there was an australian sketch comedy show that did a drunk version of the teletubbies - the person in the sun was unshaven and burped all the time. i think they were called "drinky-drinky, blah-blah, tipsy" and something else.. maybe i'm drunk because i can't remember the fourth name. oh well.

Due to the fact that the Teletubbies offer both no entertainment and no educational value, I decided to check them out for a few weeks and figure out exactly what the cult wanted. Friends, you have no idea what is hiding behind this show. It's FILTHY. First, there's the fact that Po refers to her scooter as her "cooter." Okay, fine. But then came the episode in which it rained magic flowers in Teletubbyland. It rained on Po's scooter, causing her to sniff it and exclaim happily, "Po's cooter smell lovely!" I am not making this up. There is also the episode about LaaLaa's "secret dance" - a barely concealed masturbation story where the other tubbies go outside and LaaLaa stays inside, pretending to be sleepy, and then does her "secret dance" as soon as they leave, stopping and pretending to sleep again whenever the others come back. Not to mention the "dust" from the windmill is so clearly acid - what else could cause creatures to see television on the bellies of their friends... TWICE? If I haven't already scared you yet, I'd like to add that the freaky baby-sun has a name. I saw it on some site long ago. His name is Ben. No shitting. Ben the baby-sun. I'm scared. Hold me.
