Wheee! First poster! Anyway, remember when you thought ol' Andrew had autism and it just turned out to be an ear infection? Your boy's smarter.... wait, that's not nice. Someone else say it.

Don't worry UB, I was adding, subtracting, and reading when I was four and I turned out to be perfectly normal and sociable.

Bigpimpinmba - 2004-08-31 10:09:21
You like to talk about erections a lot. Weatherman. You at karaoke night. Lots of erections. I think that is why Andrew's teacher gives you the look of concern. Your erection.

saidnot - 2004-08-31 10:12:09
Oooh! I know something about the weatherman ... La, la, la ...

Hey now. I work at a daycare center. Hah. Actually, I have a trilingual one year old in my class. He tries to teach me German and Slavic. I think it shows a lot of character when teachers are open enough to get feedback/learn from their students. But that's just me.

If I ever have a kid, I'm gonna make sure he wears earplugs until he's 2 or 3. Then I can take them out and give his brain a turbojolt of hyperactivity and make him super smart. Then he can find the cure for cancer or invent a better mousetrap or something. I dunno.

Mr. Grey - 2004-08-31 10:49:57
Okay JP, I'll say it. It sounds like you are jealous your son is smarter than you are and are trying to cover up that fact with all the penis talk. ;)

Andy - 2004-08-31 10:59:23
UB, did you ever do a Praternity test?

Veronica - 2004-08-31 11:37:17
You crack me up! Great entry!

Don't worry I was super bright when I was young but then everyone caught up with me, then overtook me, actually this isn't a fun story.

Dude, just goes to show you what a little home-training can do. Not to get into a battle of My-Kid-Can-Outdo-your-kid-any-day-of-the-week-and-twice-on-Sunday. I too have a 3-year-old who is completing complex math (ok, he can add and subtract, as long as the end result is he ends up with the most amount of Thomas trains) he knows his alphabet and recognizes all of the letters plus Friday he said quite possibly the coolest thing I think I've ever heard from a 3-year-old.

You can read about it here.
Hows THAT for a shameless plug.

Kelly - 2004-08-31 13:44:31
HRT, your shameless plug worked and that is the SWEETEST story. What a little man. I have to say that is the coolest thing I've ever heard a three year old say. UB, be prepared that the public school system is going to lambast you when Andrew does not interact with his kindergarten classmates in a few years. Apparently it is not ok for a child to be self sufficient and able to entertain himself without needing everything and everyone to be revolving around him. But obviously peer interaction does nothing for him and he'd rather talk to some folks who understand what he's saying. The boy's gonna give his teachers a run for their money! :-)

nautile - 2004-08-31 14:23:34
Wooohooo, hurricaine! Maybe it'll be like Hurricaine Opal, except now I'm closer to the Gulf. Don't worry, once Andrew gets into the public school system, he'll stop with the smart thing. That's just not cool in your normal classroom; you'd get beaten up for that kind of thing.

lorrie - 2004-08-31 16:58:32
HRT, I've just added you to my favorites list.

HRT - 2004-08-31 17:17:33
Awww thanks lorrie. What can I say, I'm a no-good-shameless-attention-whore.

At least I'm funny...
...and humble.

Jamie - 2004-08-31 18:17:22
Wow... smart kid. But I've seen this before; Bob, I hate to break it to you, but I see a potential nerd.

A crack head in a drug-addled frenzy showing off a nice set of tits....is that so much to ask?

I live in Idaho. Fuck.

It could be worse. Your boy could be Dylan. Just remember that.

Dawn - 2004-08-31 23:58:27
Dude, start saving up for the therapy bills now. My sister's got an IQ of 162 and she was bullied by her teachers for five years in elementary school because she was too smart for them. She's now in therapy because she started cutting herself and nearly developing an eating disorder and her therapist says it stems from the five years of trauma. Cool that your boy's freaking out his teachers though.

former-crackhead - 2004-09-01 01:17:16
Now that you've taken your potshots at the hapless crackheads, I hope you will take a moment to pray for their recovery, it's very tough to beat, I'm one of the lucky ones with over 3 years clean. Not everybody can beat it, I've been to 4 funerals in the last 3 years. Other friends are in jail and others, while I don't really associate with them anymore, are headed for disaster. Pray for them.

Yeah, guys, crack heads are people, too!

Quickdraw - 2004-09-02 09:51:43
Hey UB again great post! Former-crackhead congrats on making it out safe. I know why you don't associate with "them" anymore. It is because no one is ever really a "former crackhead" or cocaine addict. Being around "it" increases the chances that you will slip and be dragged back into the cycle of psychological cravings. My friends and I (who have mostly all made it out - safe!) still laugh at our own past antics because crack and cocaine as with all other drugs and alcohol cause anyone to behave in a manner that to an outside or reflective observer is funny. I am sure, if you are reading this, you can think of something that you did while high that is funny. Sad, but funny still. Of course, if you took a hatchet to your Grandma for the wad of dollar bills she kept in her bra, that ain't funny. If you became catatonic at an inopportune time or suddenly lost control of you lower jaw muscles or lips and couldn't clearly communicate when you desperately needed too or locked yourself in a bathroom for four hours unable to come out then that's hella funny. Sad but hella funny just the same. Prayer helps you feel better but I don't think it helps the crackhead. The crackheads must help themselves. And it is funny that it seems they can't do that. Sad, but funny at the same time. UB, leave no stone unturned in your quest for nuggets of comedic gold (like you need ME to tell you this)!

I started to read that last comment by Quickdraw, but thanks to my ADD I got distracted and just started writing my own comment. You'd think that with as much as I don't have to say and my shameless promoting that I'd go off and get my own diary. You'd think.

It wasn't a "tank top" you loser- it was a "boob tube" and I am too sexy.

Yo, crackhead? You gotta have BOOBS to wear a "boob tube" ya freak.

Boy, is it ever obvious that you're a first time parent. Have another kid, and Andrew's IQ will drop 50 points.
