Tee hee hee. Good entry. The image of you on your lawn cracks me up. I like you solution for those Russian evils. P.S. First post! It's first of the day and my first post here!

I couldn't agree with you more about the punishment for those Russian terrorists if they were still alive. Death was definitely too good for those bastards.

My first thought upon reading the subject line in the notify was "Positive for WHAT?". :-) Yeah we got winds upwards of 10 miles an hour with Frances, too. It was oh so exciting. My best friend just left this morning to head back home to Melbourne FL after being here, evacuated, for a week. I hope we get at least some rain with Ivan! It is unfortunate that now, after not only refusing to assist the United States in fighting terrorism but also HELPING TRAIN THE TERRORISTS WE WERE FIGHTING AGAINST, Russia is dealing with their own little situations. After their two commercial airlines were blown up, it was in an article relating to the attack that a "Russian Source" called it "Russia's 9/11." @@ I am just really sad for those children, parents, and teachers that Russia waited until terrorism was knocking on their front door before they decided to do anything about it. And I think your idea is a mighty fine one, UB.

yeah, the Hurricane Fairy has definitely blessed Florida this year. And I know the rest of the country is wondering why people still choose to live in Florida, when it's clear that Mother Nature has declared some sort of jihad on the state. But hey, man, it's better than earthquakes; hurricanes, at least, are natural disasters you can SEE coming. It's kinda cool.. I feel like Indiana Jones running away from a giant boulder. Except I'm not running anywhere.. I'm just buying more beer and putting plywood on my windows. p.s. The Russian terrorists should have their feet cut off and then be forced to jump up and down over and over until they're empty.

Kelly, I have to say you really don't know the European situation. Those people are physically very close to the middle east. Siding with the US would have meant certain doom. That's part of why France didn't want to get involved... that and an incredibly large chunk of their population is Muslim (though the Muslim's there openly oppose what is happening in the middle east and are mostly pacifists). To give you an idea... European countries entering our war would be like Texas declaring war on Mexico, not just Mexico but Mexico on PCP... oh yeah, and Mexico would magically be richer than Texas in this scenario. Or did you forget Russia is a poor country and is (along with most of Eastern Europe) still considered second world (and third world in some places). Do you really think they have the money to get involved in what looks to be a long and expensive war they will not profit from? The war may or may not be about the oil, but there is definitely oil involved and the rights for that and a lot of things have already been promised to large US corporations. So lay off the Russians and go study Europe a little. You're polarizing the issue and leaving out important details in doing so. People may like to believe in good and evil but the world is rarely so simple. -C-

Good post Ry, and well done for keeping nice about it, I tend to get a little ranty when people talk without knowing the situation. Oh and UB we only got the 'remains' of the first hurricane here in the uk and it made two serious landslides and a tonne of wind and rain for a week or so, how come we got it worse, geography confuses me ;)

I don't know the situation in Russia, nor most of the rest of the world, so I don't comment on it. But I will say that anyone that can kill innocent children should be removed from my planet. It's one thing to fight a war, it's another thing to kill defensless children. I'm with you UB!

Mr. Xenophobe - 2004-09-12 09:33:08
Fuck 'em. Fuck 'em all. Do you notice how when a group of people do something unspeakable, such as murdering children or beheading the people who travelled a long way to help them, it's never a group of Americans or Brits or Swedes? I may not be aware of the political situation in other countries, but I still have to think that this means something.
-------------------------------
Erin - 2004-09-12 10:06:32
Oh, sure. I'm certain we never killed any Iraqi children or any Vietnamese children...oh, but those are all war casualties right?

Zoe - 2004-09-12 10:48:12
plus, there's our wonderful American history of slavery, Jim Crow laws, Japanese Internment, and our decimation of the Native Americans. Then there's the British history of occupation in India and the paternalistic colonization of many other countries. Sweden.. well.. okay. You got me on Sweden. They were Vikings at one point, does that count? I don't know. Swedes just hang out and read a lot. Did you know they have a 100% literacy rate among adults? Someone needs to call Sweden and take some notes on that. Let me just say, though, after knocking my country, that I love America and what it stands for, but sometimes we fuck shit up. A lot. But hopefully we're working towards forming a more perfect union. I'm giving it a shot, anyway. My point is, Mr X: there are bad apples in every orchard.. Russia, Germany, America, the Middle East.. even Sweden. Probably not, but who knows. Anyway: don't let the actions of a few asshole extremists speak for an entire nation, race, or people.

Sorry Zoe, gotta disagree with you on the earthquake thing. Having lived in CA my entire life, they are nothing! By the time you realize what is happening they are over. And in reality, only a small portion of CA is prone to serious earthquakes. Most of us only feel a little shaking and no damage. And UB, love the idea for the terrorists. How about you setting up a new business that teaches the world governments how to do this technique? Might make you a pretty penny!

I guess I forgot to mention that Mr. Putin is now "declaring war on terror", or at least according to the American media, he is. And ya'all are right, I DON'T know the whole situation over in Europe, but countries who don't stand up and say "this is wrong" are, unfortunately, going to regret it in the long run. French citizens were held hostage in Iraq by Muslim extremists because France passed a law forbidding Muslim females to wear facial coverings at school. The fact that Mr. Chirac didn't participate in the liberation of Iraq didn't seem to make a difference for the folks who were held hostage. Is there a link to a website or some sort of paper reading I can do to inform myself better of what's going on in Europe? Point me in the right direction, please :-)

Kelly - 2004-09-12 22:17:52
Erin, I don't know if you are the Erin from my e-loop...but...there seems to be a trend of countries arming their youth because they know our soldiers will hesitate when it comes to killling a child (or a woman, for that matter). IMO, and yes, it's only my opinion, this is done on purpose to further villafy (sp?) the USA. Cuz now we can be made out to be baby murderers. Just my opinion. So was my other entry. Doesn't make me a bad person! :-) lol

Kelly, this (http://www.slate.com/id/2106287/) is a good summary of the situation in Chechnya and why the terrorists feel they have to commit such outrages. Putin claims al Qaeda was involved but there is no evidence to support that, it was just said to get sympathy from the U.S. To get a pretty good summary of European public opinion (in the UK at least) read www.guardian.co.uk for opinion on the left and www.telegraph.co.uk for opinion on the right. The Guardian website is probably closer to the opinion of most Europeans. Also, most people across Europe are sympathetic to the U.S.'s fight against terror and al Qaeda, which is not the same thing as the war in Iraq, whatever the U.S. media may say.

Funny how nobody ever calls them what they really are. ISLAMIC TERRORISTS. And I have yet to hear one, JUST ONE, moderate Islamic leader publicly condemn the actions of their brethren. So enough with all the Euro-Islami apologists. It is apparently you who know not of what you speak. I guess that you wont get it until it is your head being sliced off.

Mr. X., American is the WORST in my opinion. No, I'm not a flaggit and I am from America. I'm ashamed to be American, we are so tacky-ass Jerry Springer, I can't stand it. Baby mamas, baby daddies, pedophilia running rampant... the list goes on and on. Let's take care of our own country first before we have delusions of grandeur that we can help someone else. While I wholeheartedly support our troops in Iraq, we should have never gone to war. We are warmongers, plain and simple. I hate this country; tacky, tacky, tacky. If I didn't have a good job, I'd be living in Canada or the Netherlands.

KW - 2004-09-13 12:47:43
"And I have yet to hear one, JUST ONE, moderate Islamic leader publicly condemn the actions of their brethren." True, but I also have yet to hear one, JUST ONE, moderate CHRISTIAN leader publically condemn the acts of a Rev. Fred Phelps or a Rev. Jim Bakker or an Oral Roberts or... I'd say before we assume silence is consent in Islam, let's see if silence is consent in Christianity as well.
-------------------------------
Kelly - 2004-09-13 13:00:33
KW, that is an excellent point. And let's not forgot those who bomb abortion clinics in the name of Christianity.
-------------------------------
IV:XX - 2004-09-13 13:52:29
I wasn't trying to turn this into a Christian vs. Muslim forum, but if you want to, that is OK with me. There is no love lost here for either group. But you should know that plenty of moderate Christian leaders have publicly decried the actions of the aforementioned charlatans. Now, lest you miss the point, AGAIN, please compare and contrast the actions of a few unnafiliated lunatics with the organized doings of thousands of highly organized and state financed "holy warriors". And they care not if you haven't a dog in this fight, they will make jihad on your ass as well. Trust me, if you are not a brother in Allah, you are not s*%t to them. Therein lies the disconnect that allows them to murder innocents with impunity.
-------------------------------
Mr. Xenophobe - 2004-09-13 23:46:32
You guys miss the point. Certainly American troops kill children. But it's not the planned purpose of those troops to kill babies. It just happens when Adults shoot at each other. The Joint Chiefs of Staff don't sit around the Pentagon targeting operations to kill the most Iraqi or Vietnamese or Somalian babies in an effort to make the Iraqis, Vietnamese, or Somalis do what we want them to do. Terrorists do exactly that. They deliberately target civilians of all types and are particularly fond of the weak and helpless because they know that is how they get the most publicity, which is what it is all about for them. And those ain't the Americans, Brits, or Swedes. You're wrong. You didn't think the issue through.
-------------------------------
Me - 2004-09-15 13:55:44
well, IV:XX, I don't live in America, but yes, I HAVE heard a Islamic Leader in my country publicly decry such actions, in the newspaper, on TV, on radio. I have muslim friends, lots of them, none of them agree that 'if you are not a brother in Allah, you are not s*%t to them', and certainly none of them think that the murder of innocents is in to be approved of in the name of ANYTHING. And yeah, in case you were wodnering, I'm a Christian, a very staunch one. And as for the whole 'war and terrorism' thing, I just think the world's gonna end. Where else would these conflicts lead to? World peace? I don't think so.
