tara - 2004-09-14 08:40:43
That's funny...our weathermen here in New Orleans are saying the same thing:Ivan is headed towards us! Let's hope it doesn't get either one of us! We're loading up the kid, the dog, the cat, and the hamster and heading out for parts unknown, but way north of here.

ahdfg - 2004-09-14 08:49:37
don't worry, just drink the hurricane

Kelly - 2004-09-14 10:56:23
I guess I better board up my windows? I'm 3 hours north of you and I guess I'll make sure to watch the noon news. I really don't have time for this stuff! I suppose I should also head to Wally World and get some water and canned soup....if they have any left.

epipie - 2004-09-14 11:05:43
Well. Good news. If Tropical Storm Jean bulks up, you can watch your weatherman go through his mood swings again.

UB: Speaking about being an unemployed lazy bastard, what ever became of the alarm business? You were very excited about it. It seemed almost too good to be true....

Stiggy - 2004-09-14 12:10:00
You'll be in my thoughts, for what it's worth.
-------------------------------
warcrygirl - 2004-09-14 12:40:08
Better you than southern FL, UB. Auntie M says they literally couldn't handle another hurricane. Most people are living in seriously damaged homes right now and the shelters are either damaged as well or full. Uma, Oprah...Oprah, Uma.

Pisser - 2004-09-14 13:09:19
Ditto, Stiggy. I just don't understand how plywood (if you had any) is supposed to protect your house. I used to make those toy planes out of that crap and it's the wimpiest wood ever.

longtimereader - 2004-09-14 13:29:07
Uh- what's with the racist "opie" when referring to Oprah?
-------------------------------
wtf? - 2004-09-14 14:02:17
how is "opie" racist? wasn't he the little red-headed kid Ron Howard on that old show in mayberry? sheesh longtimereader.

Jas - 2004-09-14 15:27:35
Not that I know from experience, living in Michigan and all, but if you're really worried about your windows, duct tape 'em. Apparently if they break, you will at least have big chunks of glass and not tons of little shards. This may be bullshit, but they do say that duct tape fixes everything. . .

Not_Cindy_Crawford - 2004-09-14 15:30:04
Ken Jennings has finally lost last week but will appear on Jeopardy until the end of the month with all the shows already taped. I frankly am tired of seeing him every night :oP

Good luck with Ivan. I'm in FL and have been hit with TWO hurricanes (charley and frances). Frances left us without power for 7 days, complete with sewer backups that caused a *second* evacuation. (the first was to GA for 4 days). My house, despite being in the path of both 'canes survived nicely, but our county was declared a disaster area for both storms. It's a fucking *mess* here in Florida, seriously. I still have FEMA supplies in the kitchen..

Lori - 2004-09-14 15:37:49
All I can say is...stay safe Bob and family. And as for Oprah, according to the account I read there was even more. A house? A scholarship? I'll have to find that story again. She is genuinely a good person. Not enough of those in the world.

nicki - 2004-09-14 16:21:47
a friend of mine has a straight-guy crush on the jeopardy guy...he even emailed him. i bet he'd like you, uncle b. give it a shot.

saamba - 2004-09-14 17:02:23
Good luck with the hurricane and all. Our weatherman here is all giddy and excited about it coming too, and we live in fucking upstate NY. I'm not kidding. Every day he says "Be sure to tune in and find out how the hurricane is going to affect us!"

Gimme a break.

OK Oprah's cool and all and I think it's great that her audience got new cars, but I read the cars were donated by the Pontiac dealership. So it's not like they came from Oprah's stash of millions or anything! "Though Oprah seems to get much of the credit for the giveaway, General Motors donated the cars, which retail for $28,000 each."

cosmicrayola - 2004-09-14 19:08:16
I will be thinking of you. I pray for all of you and hope for the best.

You mean Ken Jennings...THE ALIEN?!?

This daily update is sponsored by Uncle Bob Inc. :-)

Oh and Kim, you don't think GM donated those cars out of the goodness of their hearts do you? No honey, they did it because in exchange for their (so-called) generousity, they were plugged on OPRAH!!!! A show watched by millions of CAR BUYING Americans. Duh!

saidnot - 2004-09-14 21:05:27
Hey Bob! We didn't bother to board up either and we've got a whole case of water. Hubby said nobody can be pepared for two weeks without electricity and running water anyway. Still, I'll be keeping my fingers crossed that tree I meant to have taken down this summer doesn't relocate to our bedroom. I'll meet you at the colliseum tomorrow at 5:00. ;-)

that thing poking out of your gum may be a bone fragment, rather than your 5th bite of wisdom. not that we don't think you are wise or anything...
-------------------------------
dan - 2004-09-16 14:06:56
Yeah, it was Pontiac who not only donated the cars but will also pay the taxes that all those lucky people will have to pay to Uncle Sam as a result of winning the cars. So yeah, Oprah's nice but that $7 million didn't come out of her pocket.
