Second!

UB, I'm sure you'll do the right thing. You always do. Well, almost always. Okay, sometimes. Well... *runs away*

Is there a place to just set up inside and not even have to worry about the outside deal? They cannot seriously expect you stand out in the rain with thousands of dollars of ELECTRICALLY CHARGED equipment!

Andy - 2005-04-28 09:07:07
Gee Uncle Bob, did you put the clause in there to screw clients and get out of fufilling agreeded upon services? Or did you put it in there to protect you and them? If the client understands the risks of the weather and still wants to hold the event, do your best to make em happy, even if it's a bitch to move stuff around. But if it get's too be too much, then yea, close it down, and charge them appropriately. If that's the full price, fine. If not...that's cool too.

It sounds like you do a significant amount of outdoor events, maybe you should invest in one of those high quality tents to set up under? So if the weather gets bad for an hour or so, you're not running home like a little girl.

Go with the contract - they signed it, it's there for a reason and sometimes life sucks. Being nice was the main downfall of my husband's having his own business.

Barb - 2005-04-28 09:30:17
Set up inside. That way you won't get wet, they'll have music, there will be no resetting up...

Drew - 2005-04-28 09:49:15
Dammit UB - you made me cry too. Just reading about that contract broke my heart. If it rains, screw 'em, take the money and run. Who knows what will come tomorrow? It could Andrew getting the 'You're the man of the house' line. Wow, I didn't know I had that kind of callousness in me. Bah!

Whinerhater - 2005-04-28 10:01:40
Bob, get over it and move on so you can get healthy. You came up with the contract for a REASON, right? Which was so the party in question doesn't suck and no one freezes their ass off, right?. Who twisted the client's arm to sign it anyway? They signed it of their own free will because they wanted your services; they must abide by it; nuts to them if they don't like it, it's business. And I've give that priest from the funeral a square one in the jaw, too, for laying such a guilt trip on a SEVEN YEAR OLD BOY IN FRONT OF EVERYBODY. Where the FUCK does he get off? Isn't he supposed to give COMFORT and COUNSEL? WTF???

Take the money and run! If you feel "funky" about taking the money then give half to family of the man who just died. On that note I'll add I can't stand when anyone puts a kid in that sort of place by telling them they have to take care of the family now. So totally not fair to a kid to do that. Don't put the kid through anything more. It's a burdon even some men can't handle... what makes anyone think a small child can "take care of the family now" UGH!!! sorry...*clears throat* I'll go to my blog now and be real quiet :)

Amen, Whinerhater. I thought the same thing about that priest! When I read that, my jaw actually dropped and I said "what??!!"... I'd like to have a word with that priest myself. The poor little guy is only 7 years old, and I think he already has plenty on his plate!! Okay. I have too much more to say, so I will stop here. I'm so pissed off.

Problem Solver : Don't show for the gig... claim a sinus infeection. You'll feel less guilty that way... :)

Thanks UB for making me bawl my eyes out 1 minute before taking my son to preschool where I have to deliver him to the class where everyone will see my red eyes. Thanks.

The storms you are about to get came by here last night. Lets just say that no one will be outside when they hit, it was horrible and I kept losing power all night. Call the people and tell them how you feel and see if they could get somewhere inside to play. You will definately fry your equiptment (and get hailed on!) if you are outside.

ffifi - 2005-04-28 13:52:32
Wow, that priest... somethin' of a cunt, i'n't he?
-------------------------------
Squeakzilla - 2005-04-28 14:58:29
The priest has a pretty heavy responsibilty himself, being the liaison between heaven and earth and all (sic). He probably thought he was helping the 7 old be strong. Follow the terms of your contract UB and offer a discount for the re-scheduled/re-located event. Or, you could go play in the storm all night and get really sick and end up with that priest consoling YOUR kid.

fifi - 2005-04-28 15:04:23
Wow, that priest...somethin' of a deluded cunt(sic)....i'n't he?

Sheila - 2005-04-28 15:58:29
I'm sure they're anticipating having to pay not only you, but anyone else they've booked to work outside. I'm sure they'll be professional.

cosmic - 2005-04-28 15:58:41
Way too much of a load for a 7 year old. Anytime something goes wrong in his family from this point on, he will think it is because he failed his dad. How horrible. As for the gig, can't you rig up big speakers to the outside that can be pulled back into safety if need be? Then you can not only stay out of harms way, but you won't even have to innterrupt the party except for the few minutes need to drag them in. Just a thought.

Brandi - 2005-04-28 17:41:09
I would call your contact person and discuss the situation, what it says in your contract, and ask them what they would want to do if it DOES actually rain. Some peope sign contracts without reading all the fine print, so it's very likely they don't know that little clause is in there. Good luck.

My deepest sympathies on the loss of your friend.

FizGig - 2005-04-29 00:38:33
It was a fund-raiser, dude...I don't know, it just seems to me that if I don't feel right doing it, then I don't do it. I cover myself in case people are assholes, but if they're not, then I always feel the need to reward people for not being assholes.

Dea - 2005-04-29 15:34:02
Whinerhater, I agree whole heartedly.. (HMM SP) anyhow that was evil of the priest.

maphis - 2005-05-11 09:47:43
