http://www.portdiscovery.org/news/calendar.html scroll down to may events! I get to work that all day.... The imagination movers ( a group of dads from atlanta that are a rip off of the wiggles) are going to be there. Look around the site too- If you ever have to come up to Baltimore e-mail me and I'll give you my free passes. Andrew would love this place.

May Day is a Celtic Pagan festival that is celebrating the returning power of the sun and bringing fertility to the land. The maypole is a symbol of that fertility, and dancing around it helps bring good luck and fertility to those celebrating. 3rd?

Happy May Day to you too! i haven't heard the song ... but i know what you mean, Uncle Bob. was a simpler time ... and not so many whackos.

I don't want to download the song. I got chill bumps the entire time I read the lyrics! I don't know if that makes me a loser or just overly-emotional. And is it bad I've never heard of May Day (well, it being celebrated in any way)?

CB radio was the chat room of the 70's and 80's. Then that weird 1-900 "party line" stuff showed up for awhile. Then the internet chat with everybody typing away. Now, folks are using voice in the chat rooms. So really, the more things change the more they stay the same. That bawling thing starts to happen at a certain age. I remember watching a movie by myself and being overcome with emotion. Same thing. I finally figured it out though. Let us know when you do!

Damn that song was cheesy... I cried all the way through it too. That's why I don't listen to much country music - they seem to want to turn people into a puddle of tears, what with "Christmas Shoes", "Concrete Angel", "Riding with Private Malone", etc. Buncha asshole rednecks pulling on my heartstrings... pisses me off.

Im glad you cried. Now, you know what I went through after reading the funeral entry the other day. Crybaby.

I loved Red Sovine back in the day. I saw him in concert years ago with Sonny James, remember him? Ya and my CB handle was Momma Bee. License number KRJ3880, wanna make something of it? Back in those days you had to be licensed to talk on the CB. It was good. Then the powers that be decided anyone could talk. Everybody and their brother went out and bought one and it became a huge mating machine. I got rid of mine then. Ya, good times. Ya, all gone.

My dad is a big country music fan and I've cried many times whenever he plays that song... what a tearjerker

moonfaerry has it right about the Maypole. It's a phallic symbol. May 1st is/was also the main holiday for Communists.

I always used to give my teachers flowers on May Day and now my kids do the same thing. Of course I make them goose step when they do it! Ha...

I hate those freakin songs that make you cry. You know their as corny as crap but you can't help it. And oddly enough songs get to me more than corny movies do. Perhaps it's your own imagery?? Anyway, thanks for getting my Sunday off to a great start, uncle bob. Why don't you enlighten us with a nice Terry song next week? :-p

You want to hear something fnny, find the cover version of Teddy Bear by Hank Hill. Yes, the Hank Hill of propane and propane accessories. I heard it on Sirius, and it's hilarious. Especially when he chokes up when has to say "crippled", and "took my turn riding Teddy Bear, er, uh, I mean giving Teddy Bear a ride."

That is the creepiest fucking song I've ever had the pleasure of reading the lyrics to.

Do you remember the other one? "Roses for Mama" ? Same exact format. The little boy is talking on the cb to the truckers telling them he needs roses for his mama. And it turns out...she's dead, and he wants to put them on her grave.

May Day is an old Pagan festival that celebrates the coming of summer. It's Beltane. The skipping around the maypole has to do with fertility, which is actually funny. Those cute little virgin ten-year-olds have no idea what it's about.
