Awesome. Too bad you weren't the first then we could call it I got "Uncle Bob"'d. Of course, that sounds like I got molested by a relative.
-------------------------------
Racehorse Haynes - 2005-06-24 09:29:11
First they hire you back with a better deal, then they fire you for what you do on your own time despite the fact that it doesn't involve "Jesus Juice" and sleepovers with young boys? Sue 'em, Uncle Bob! Go all mama duck on 'em!

Cap'n Ganch - 2005-06-24 09:30:44

-------------------------------
Sandra - 2005-06-24 09:36:36
???!!! I don't recall you ever naming the company. And how did they even find out about it?
-------------------------------
Kate - 2005-06-24 09:39:34
Come on, Uncle Bob, you gotta give us more details than that!
-------------------------------
BigPimp - 2005-06-24 09:48:36
Holy shit. I am so sorry, Bob.
-------------------------------
anenigma - 2005-06-24 09:59:59
No shit? See dude, you can only get away with abusing metaphors for so long before something bad happens.
-------------------------------
alex - 2005-06-24 10:17:44
The ducks? No...no, I don't believe it. Why doesn't shit like that ever happen when I'm around? I'd pay good money to see something like that.

Wow, sucks about getting dooced dude.
-------------------------------
taura - 2005-06-24 10:18:00
I agree with Racehorse Haynes, go all mama duck on them!

jennifer - 2005-06-24 10:18:14
If anything, they should have asked you to make it a column.

artgnome - 2005-06-24 10:18:24
Dang! These companies are just raging with paranoia now, aren't they? How ludicrous! I would threaten them with a "tell all" book!
-------------------------------
awittykitty - 2005-06-24 10:22:18
I would have thought that one of the people from one of your hillbilly karoaoke weddings would have, like burned a cross on your lawn or something, but not this. Sorry to hear UB. Please take care.
-------------------------------
Blue Meany - 2005-06-24 10:58:52
Wow. I was gonna say something clever about Millie and the ducks, but after that last part ... that would be too much heartless bitchery. Good luck with all the craziness. My advice is to sue.

The Boy - 2005-06-24 11:03:43
ok my first thought is... "I'm calling B.S. on UB" it's too Maury Povich Show to get ganked for blogging 10 sec. later I think .... these dumbasses will have to pay you TRIPLE to get you back to work at the paper now, go down there with some single malt scotch and the pics of the boss with that Cambodian Nancy boy... start negotiating
-------------------------------
justagirl - 2005-06-24 11:15:56
UB I have to call BS on that, he went through his whole story first then told us... Most people would have freaked out and never posted, although he didn't post yesterday (I might have missed it). And if it is true, what was it, references to the Drunk Assed boss??? Geeze Louise... I'll make sure to be EXTRA careful in mine...

That is damn stupid that you got fired for something you do in your free time! I would tell them to mind their own business...this page is like a way to poke fun at all the lame crap that goes on in life, like a release or something. If they can't joke around then they suck! That's hilarous about the ducks, I would love to see that!
-------------------------------
moonfaeryy - 2005-06-24 11:54:33
UB, is it really fair to drop a bomb on us like that, knowing full well that you don't normally update on the weekends? Dude, that hurts! Sorry to hear about it tho. Definitely go Mama Duck and sue! Glad to hear Baby Matthew's doing better.
-------------------------------
Beth - 2005-06-24 12:22:35
Wait, are you serious? That's horrible. And way to be all Sweeps Week with the cliffhanger on a Friday!
-------------------------------
Northstar - 2005-06-24 12:27:42
Lame. Set the place on fire and be done with it. Also, put the video of the duck attack up. Please.
-------------------------------
Arfy - 2005-06-24 12:59:07
Uncle Bob, that is so noble of you to take a bullet for us just to keep writing about drunk-assed Jamie and all. What's that? You didn't do it on purpose? You selfish bastard.
-------------------------------
Mark - 2005-06-24 13:11:43
Son's of bitches fired you UB. Blow the joint up. And then smoke one over the wonderful destruction caused by it.
-------------------------------
Rachel - 2005-06-24 13:13:24
I kinda think you're BS'ing too. I mean, come on. A duck could actually cause a gash big enough for 5 staples?? That would have to be one tough duck.
-------------------------------
Nance - 2005-06-24 13:14:52
First of all, I seriously doubt that being "dooced" is even legal. . .and B, I take offense to having my name used in vain "The Boy"!!
-------------------------------
Carrie - 2005-06-24 13:29:42
that so sucks! It's not like you were writing it at work wern't you? And we all can't tell where you work..it's and how do they know its you? Grr idiots
-------------------------------
Perry Como - 2005-06-24 13:31:49
UB, tell me the company and I'll send some of my Mafia connections over there to... you know... act as ombudsmen on your behalf. And Frankie, you pinko, what the hell are you DOING using Japanese words??? Tell that to AVA, you Sammy wannabe; you use more hair oil than a TRUCKLOAD of Elvis impersonators..... where's my goddamn martini?
-------------------------------
Chris - 2005-06-24 14:25:15
So sorry to hear it UB. Hope it was all a misunderstanding and you will be back in business in no time. IF not, go to the compitition. There is more than one newspaper in this state.
-------------------------------
outfoxed - 2005-06-24 14:39:58
Well damn. If you're on the up and up, you're the biggest name I read (since GutRumbles) that got dooced. Is it time for the bulldozer entry yet? You know, the leveler?
-------------------------------
deborah - 2005-06-24 17:04:16
There are several states where it's legal to be fired for absolutely no reason (as long as it's not because your race, sex, religion, etc.). If you're local to the area, and if UB has been fairly accurate in his descriptions of his job, employer, etc., it wouldn't be too hard to figure out where he works (or worked). If he was "ratted out" by a co-worker or someone else that put two 'n' two together, it's not surprising UB got fired. He hasn't been exactly complimentary about his employers. All of this isn't to say I agree with being fired for what's in your blog (I don't). Just be aware it's a possibility and act accordingly.

danelle - 2005-06-24 19:07:18
Oh crap.
-------------------------------
Raven - 2005-06-24 22:05:49
wow .....i'm sorry to hear that. interestingly enough, one of my first posts on my blog was about this very thing ... http://abcnews.go.com/WNT/Business/story?id=485895&page=1 this is an article i linked .... No names were used in her blog not hers, her co-workers', nor her company's. But she was terminated after company executives were tipped off and read her posts, which included unflattering descriptions of many of them. "What I was doing was completely benign," Armstrong said. "I never mentioned any trade secrets. I never mentioned the company." Her Web site is located at dooce.com. Since her termination, some bloggers have taken to calling the act of being fired because of one's Web site being "dooced."

Kaz - 2005-06-24 22:14:25
UB! Dude! hoping that the doocing by the douches is just a tease....but if not - ya know - you'd have been treated better if you were a schizo Romanian nun!

Dr. Gonzo - 2005-06-24 23:47:08

fifi - 2005-06-25 04:04:31
Glad to hear baby Matthew is doing better. Shocked that you got fired . If there are any LAWYERS out there who read you, UB, and if God is watching over you, too, maybe you'll get some free advice on how to sue the boss's drunken ass.....
-------------------------------
darius - 2005-06-25 09:03:57
Good job Raven. I'm pretty sure UB already knows what "dooced" means considering he USED THE TERM IN HIS POST. =]
-------------------------------

What a stellar example of a father you are...

iwillsurvive - 2005-06-25 16:01:03
Hmm. To believe the dooce or not to believe the dooce. I don't know. I hope it isn't true, but according to the mini-poll I'm running on my site, Dlanders are evenly divided We shall see on Monday! Anyway, I'm glad the babby is doing a little better. Oh, and I also vote for posting the video/or video stills from the infamous "Aunt Hating Duck" footage.

If you aren't kidding then I have a serious question? How in the hell do these companies do this? On what grounds? Freedom of speech, what a crock...now...tell us all the details with FULL NAMES PHONE NUMBERS AND ADDRESSES..LETS MAKE HISTORY UB!! I think Uncle Bob'd might already be taken as a Southern incestual slang but hey, maybe not! oh and Lorrie seems to be really sorry (j/k Lorrie about the triple post)
-------------------------------
Kay - 2005-06-25 17:08:39
Can't resist, the devil has ahold of me...Raven? Who is Dooce? Never heard of her..pretty cool how UB cinched it though, damn I bet he thought he was making up a new term..
-------------------------------
lorrie - 2005-06-25 17:59:48
Now I'm REALLY SORRY about the triple post. I tried to post once and got a message that said "Banned". (scratches head) Anyway, I doubt if there is any recourse unless there is a contract, or a collective bargaining agreement, which would require a UNION, which is like almost unknown in the South, or a discriminatory reason for the firing. Most states you can be fired from any job for any reason barring one of the above.
-------------------------------
funny stuff - 2005-06-25 19:16:02
hahahaa, I was thinking about how many times you wrote, "Drunkin Jamie" were they sober when you were dooced?
-------------------------------
Raven - 2005-06-25 19:25:16
uh ... Einstein .. err i mean Darius ... i didn't post the link to the article to give the meaning of the word .... i posted it as a example that this is beginning to happen all over. *rolls eyes*
-------------------------------
Nance - 2005-06-25 19:59:47
Deborah dear, I am an H.R. professional and I know the definition of an "at-will" state (I live in one), however, it's not that easy to just fire someone without a good reason, or a company can be sued for "wrongful discharge". I still think UB is just joshin' wit' us. . .or at least I hope so, because it would suck royal if this really happened!
-------------------------------
Kay - 2005-06-25 23:29:24
Raven I am confused, that seemed to be exactly what you wrote?!?! You linked the article and went on to tell us how come the word dooced came about and I am LOL right now because this is really really old news.. And I had to laugh at this too? "UNION, which is like almost unknown in the South" Oh LORD, do you think we run around barefooted too? We have strong unions in every factory in this town I am in and we are union strong! Please don't blanket statement the south again without facts. We get enough grief down here..:(

Drunk Assed Jaimie - 2005-06-25 23:59:53
Hahahahahahaha...I need a drink now
-------------------------------
elayne - 2005-06-26 01:15:43
Kay, and whoever all else... I think that what Raven did was gave a link and then posted the first paragraph or so from the article, as an excerpt. So although her comment did in fact give the definition of dooced, etc, it wasn't exactly HER doing it, technically. It just happened to be part of what she excerpted as a "teaser" for the article. Raven, feel free to correct me if I'm wrong - I read it the same way too at first, wondering why you were coming off all high-handed like that, until I realized that the writing after the link was distinctly different than the writing before it. More capital letters, for one thing. I hope UncaBob is yanking our chains... or that there's a "rest of the story" yet to come.

UB's #1 Fan - 2005-06-26 03:23:30
sounds like you've had one hell of a week, bobby. was it drunk ass boss or drunk ass jamie that f-ed you over? screw them, dude. you should totally write a book about your adventures...just a thought.
-------------------------------
Kay - 2005-06-26 15:07:09
Yep Elayne that is what I figured out too but still confused as why she posted the article here like we (or UB) didn't know what it was. Everyone that knows the Dooce story has no dobut seen the article or ones just like it years ago. I think tt would of be sufficient to say "I was posting about this issue long ago in my diary" I think UB is probably yanking too, hoping so anyway but will make for some fine reading the next entry either way!
-------------------------------
Kay - 2005-06-26 15:11:21
no dobut..also tt..new words..embrace it..heh...(damn I should wait until fully awake to type...going back to bed...)
-------------------------------
Dave - 2005-06-26 17:57:26
http://www.woolamaloo.org.uk/ UB, same thing happened to the guy who writes this blog......maybe he can give you some pointers? It all worked out fairly well for him. I am sure he would be happy to give you a hand. Best of luck, you do not deserve it. cheers Dave.
-------------------------------
Raven - 2005-06-26 19:38:03
for the third time ... I POSTED THE ARTICLE to show that what he talked about is happening all over .. it is becoming common place .... // JEEZ // thank you Elayne ... you are correct, i posted some text out of the article .. those were not my words ... merely to show that what happened to UB (if it did indeed happen) is becoming more common place and frighteningly so. // and Kay .. i don't need to make statements about the South ... you all do a fine job on your own. // oops Dave .. be prepared to be ATTACKED!!!!

Bing - 2005-06-26 20:56:39
is your piss-boy route still there?
-------------------------------
E. - 2005-06-26 22:35:05
Raven: "frighteningly so" is a bit of an overstatement. Anything that you publish where anyone has access to will have repercussions. Freedom of speech blahblahblah, yeah. But if I said I hate you, you'd react to that. Same deal with businesses. Don't be so damn public if you don't want to have some kind of reaction.
-------------------------------
saidnot - 2005-06-26 23:50:08
Gee, Bob, that stinks. As far as I know its "right to hire, right to fire" around here, and they don't even have to give a reason. But, them giving a reason can give you ammo sometimes to fight it. Then again, on one hand, they could call slander. On the other hand, you never gave any real names. However, under the left cheek, you did give really good descriptions ...
-------------------------------
lorrie - 2005-06-27 01:45:01
Kay..perhaps it is different where you live. I live in South Carolina. I just googled and 3% of our workers are unionized, 2.7% in North Carolina.
-------------------------------
Chris - The Original Chris - 2005-06-29 14:58:15
Dude that sucks! I read UB's blog often but, what state is he in? I hope this wouldn't happen in Cali!
