UB-- don't open the gifts at the party. You'll never be able to keep track of what he got. Let him open them at home, and invite his best friend over to play and open gifts with him. Also, bring lots of hand-wipes and anti-bacterial hand cleaner. Pump-it-up is NASTY and you need to clean your son's hands constantly, or you'll wonder why he's sick next week.

Don't open the gifts at the party. Most parties we go to follow this custom now. We did it for Mad's last party and it was really much more fun for her to open them at home, after she chilled down from the party excitement.

I'm moving to Denver ASAP. Did you know they get over 250 days of sunshine each and every year? That's fucking awesome. Sunny and stoney, that's my kind of place UB. Happy belated B-Day A-Dawg!

30 kids invited to a 5-year-old's party? 20$ for a gift? Isn't that all kinda...a lot?

Erica - 2005-11-03 08:28:11
I have to agree with previous advice not to open gifts at the party. I've seen that at 90% of the parties we've been to lately and it just works out better. As long as you send a nice "thank you" no one will mind and everyone will be glad of the extra playtime.

Melissa, We're having 25 kids and 50 adults at my 1 yr old's party. That's just family and close friends. UB probably invited Andrew's class. UB, I agree, open the gifts at home.

Oh yea. 30 kids including 1 overhyped 5 year old, who no doubt will be an all time sugar high, a gazillion presents, and extreamley limited play time...this will be so friggin great. I am sure Andrew will fully understand not being able to open up the gifts then and there. Bring some scotch.

Opening gifts is lame now. So lame, in fact, that at my neice's 16th birthday all her teenage friends put their gifts on a table far, far away from the action. They gathered around to sing 'Happy Birthday', but the cake and ice cream was placed on a seperate table with no fanfare whatsoever. Any attempt to draw any attention to any traditional kind of birthday activity was immediately squashed by her 'Teenage Cool Crew'. At the end of the night she stood at the door and thanked each and every person without once acknowledging that anybody had brought her a gift. Trends. Go figure.

IV:XX, No, opening gifts isn't lame now. Your niece is just an ass.

Hey UB: Screw Denver. Come to Canada! We are super pot-friendly and not just in BC. You can buy bongs in any mall for God's sake.
-------------------------------
awittykitty - 2005-11-03 09:38:32
Pot isn't legal? And I used to smoke it in California when I was a teenager? And every freakin' kid in my class used to grow it in their back yard in Sonoma County? And they used to sell rolling papers at the 7-11? Man, that was so wrong.
-------------------------------
stillAhippie - 2005-11-03 10:12:45
what is this, pot isn't legal yet??

Payoolay - 2005-11-03 10:24:21
I agree with P. - Come to Canada! Toronto's pretty pot-friendly too. I've openly smoked ganja walking down the street on several occasions, as well as in near cops at a street party. It's all good, man. :)

It is over 300 days of sunshine a year that we have in Denver. And it was 78 and sunny yesterday. Come to Denver Uncle Bob, it is great here.

Squeakzilla - 2005-11-03 11:17:11
Toleration does not equal LEGAL for many obvious reasons. Tell Andrew to scoot over a minute, it's been a while since the Squeaktress has given me a gentle hum!

I heard on the radio that although Denver passed a law making an ounce of pot legal, they can still make arrests under a state law. Dunno for sure if that is indeed the case, but I'd wait on moving there until ya know for sure. ;)

see ya in Denver... *wink*

AltoidsAddict - 2005-11-03 14:55:03
Not only do we get tons of sunshine year-round, 70 degree temperatures randomly in the middle of winter, and legal pot possession by city law... state law provides for medical marijuana for such a wide variety of conditions, you could probably get it for a hangnail. I've seen people walk by downtown cops smoking joints without getting arrested. Not that I'd recommend flouting the feds or anything, but honestly, the only person who cares about marijuana at this point is the DA. If you get prosecuted, it's a low misdemeanor and a $100 fine, max - but these days they're even giving your pot back after the trial.

Don't move yet. Though it is now legal in the city of Denver, it's not legal under Colorado state law. You'd still get nailed for that one ounce. I'm willing to bet it will make it to the state ballet in '08.

Russifer - 2005-11-03 17:59:13
Kind of puts a new spin on that old John Denver song "Rocky Mountain High"...

Lola - 2005-11-03 18:43:02
Okay, so like 50 people have already mentioned this, but don't open the gifts at the party. That's too much mess and trouble anyway, plus all the other kids would want to play with the new toys right there, which could lead to all kinds of fighting. Let him open things by himself. By the way, I can't belive how big Andrew is!
-------------------------------
Colette - 2005-11-03 19:26:44
Yeah, still illegal under state law, but the Denver Police said, before the vote, that they would honor the will of the people. So while it's illegal technically, it's not really going to be enforced. Colorado has great weather, and there are plenty of stoners who would be more than happy to share some floor with you, UB. :)

Jane - 2005-11-03 20:00:20
No cake?? Andrew is a strange boy. And so big!!! When the hell did that happen?

I was in Denver in September for the DMB concerts. Unfortunately, i was on probation at that particular time, so i could not partake in the doobage. I was so sad. Smoke up for me, Denver, Littleton and Morrison :)

Hey UB, I dreamed last night that you announced that the story behind some of your fairly recent "stuff going on in real life" comments was that Suzy was pregnant again (with a girl this time). Sometimes my dreams are prescient like that... Got any news you want to share with us? heh.

What Julia said. And write a list of what-it-is and who-gave-it, AS you open them, in case you get mixed up.

As others have said, Denver is a bloody wonderful place. Sure, sure, state and federal law is still against our beloved cannabis. But isn't it nice to know someone is taking a stand for what's right? I think I'll light up a blunt now. I bid you adieu!
