GIANT kudos for giving up the stall. As some one who is disabled, I know how rare it is for people do what you did. Unfortunately, no good deed goes unpunished.. ;)

Mythbusters disproved the myth that fecal matter goes airborne (at least the e coli part of it, anyway). The fact that I know this and can cite a source makes me loser extraordinaire.

The "inhaling flakes of poop" line did me in this time. Great entry, disgusting, but great.

Squeak - Not to start a blog comment fight (i love you) but, I thought the mythbusters talked about how there was poo everywhere and that it just wasn't in high enough amounts to make people sick?

One time a handicapped lady cut my 4 year old sister in line because "it's the handicapped stall" --so apparrently a four-year old who has been bouncing up and down holding herself in line for 5 minutes (eternity) should wait for a regular stall, while the handicapped cut in front of everyone else. At the time I was pissed. I didn't think her bladder was handicapped and she could have waited for the poor four year old girl to go first, but now that I hear your story...I understand. Maybe her bowels and bladder were handicapped. Good thing my sister went in a different stall...and we got the hell out before handilady was done.

Classic Unca Bob. You haven't lost your touch, like all the other dickheads I still go read even though they're unfunnier than a dead beaver in a blender. Ugh.

someone should do a study on whether loss of mobility affects the stench of your poo. i had an aunt in a wheelchair. whenever she would come to visit, if we saw her and her nurse headed for the bathroom, us kids would run outside to play like the devil was behind us. i've been in many unsanitary public bathrooms and office bathrooms where the women just don't give a DAMN anymore, but i have never come across anything so foul as the unnatural odor from the post-aunt bathroom. i know i haven't seen her in at least 15 years coz she died 10 years ago and it had been a while before that. and yet her funk was so particular, i can still conjure it's ghost in my nostrils. now excuse me, i have to go snort lysol to get rid of some ectoplasmic shit.

Dude! I am a nurse and I HEAR YOU! I ahve to deal with old people like that everyday. Fortunately, my nose has become desensitised. And it's true - lack of mobility has an inverse effect on control of bowel/bladder. Take it from someone who knows!

Chris - The OC, you may be right. All I really remembered about the Mythbusters episode was a toilet and an elaborate array of toothbrushes and the conclusion that it really didn't matter where you stored your toothbrush relative to the toilet (gawd, that's gross!). So my original note about non-aerosol poo may be amended to mean the same amount of poo is everywhere (scatalogically speaking of course). Gigi, Doesn't the "urgency of the emergency" dictate who goes first? I mean, if I'm about to have a "blowout", I don't care who's in my way, I'm next. Any alternative is, shall we say, "unthinkable".

I can attest that oldsters on hydrocodone therapy take one toilet-clogging shit a week the size of a football with a stench that will knock a buzzard off a festering gutpile at 50 yards.

Oh dear...that story made me shudder. That's toilet abuse at it's highest degree. You done good to get out there without gagging.

I always use the handicapped stall but it's not because of the roominess. I have a very bad back and most regular stalls have the toilets so low that it hurts like hell to have to start sitting down and then keep moving down and ouch. Why can't they build the dern toilets up a bit higher? I wish everyone's cycle of pooing was going in the morning AT HOME and never having to go again until the next day AT HOME. I hate it at work when I need to go #1 and upon smelling the foul immediately after opening the restroom door, have to turn immediately around and leave, holding it in until the air clears out!
