Sorry for not updating here for a week or so. I'm still getting used to the fact that I'm ... ummm ... updating here. We were all set for Andrew to attend kindergarten at the local public school. Keep in mind, our public school system is crap on a stick. This is ALABAMA. We marry our cousins here for a reason and that reason is our teachers don't teach the kids any different. But we moved into this neighborhood SPECIFICALLY so that Andrew could attend the best elementary school in the city. Then, we heard tales about how one of the second grade teachers at this school told all the kids there wasn't a Santa Claus or an Easter Bunny last year. And she wasn't fired. In fact, she was regaled as one of the top teachers at the school by the principal ... even as frantic parents were calling for her resignation. So we changed gears and decided Andrew could stay in his daycare center for another year since they offered kindergarten there and he liked it there and all the kids and teachers like him there. THEN yesterday the kindergarten teacher there resigns abruptly. So there will be no kindergarten there in three weeks. Which means we're scrambling to figure out our options. All the private schools are booked solid. The public school is still an option ... we just have to do some heavy damage control when he gets to the second grade and the teacher decides it's time he learns the truth about Santa Claus. Susie met with a lady from a Montesorri Academy here in town. And we're going to the one private school that says they have two openings in their kindergarten class this morning at 8 a.m. I'm all for locking him in his closet from 8 am until 5 pm, but apparently that's the kind of stuff that gets you labeled "insane" by a jury of your peers. Jeez. I never thought kids would be so much trouble. That's just like her to ruin my blog update just so she can be informed about a potential alternative to our son's public schooling. Gah. The nerve of that woman.
