I agree with you completely about R.E.M. I used to love those guys. Their old stuff is some of my favorite music to this day. I think it was Monster that officially ended it for me. I haven't bought any of their music since. It's like they decided that good music was no longer the way to go. Sad.

"And if you buy it on my account and hate it ... just put it in your CD collection and wait a few years. You'll like it eventually." This is how it's with some of the shit I love the most! All in due time...

Yeah, I hear you on the old Tom Waits stuff. It seems his fans are divided into two camps--the ones that like the racket (e.g. Bone Machine) and the ones that like the more melodic, jazzy stuff (Closing Time, Small Change, etc.) Me, Like you, I'm with the latter camp. The new disc is worth it for "Day After Tomorrow" and "Hoist that Rag" though. Presumably you have Alice and Mule Variations...those both fall on the melodic side of the house and are pretty recent.

I know, I know. Monster was horrible. Up wasn't so good either. But Reveal...ohmigod, people. It's a beautiful thing. The Best of isn't too bad, either. REM is like family - you have to love them, no matter what.

The New Elvis Costello disk Delivery Man is quite good. It also has a bit of a country twang to it, plus guest vocal by Lucinda WIlliams and Emmylou Harris.

When you give that old hag her Candy Jar back, make sure to fill it with something to remember you by. Condoms. Soiled condoms, baby.

"It Was A Good Year for the Roses" Elvis C can sing the hell out of any song in from any genre. "The Heart of Saturday Night" is my fave old skool Tom Waits album. Heartbreaking and hilarious, simultaneously.

"Good Year For The Roses" is my fave Elvis C. song by far. Also like "Heart of Saturday Night" ... great album. And that's the thing, I'm an old school Tom Waits fan ... I've liked a few of his songs of the last ten years or so ... but very few. I've been hesitant on getting the new "Delivery Man" Elvis disc ... may have to get it now. "Reveal" is the one REM disc I never bought. And I've loved all the Jet songs I've heard but have still not bought the disc. Thanks for the input, folks!

Yeah, I kinda feel like I got suckered into buying "Smile" because of the reveiews as well. Not quite my cup o' tea, but the bong hit sounds like a good idea.
