Hey, UB!! I didn't vote this year because the f&^$%$ing state of Texas "lost" my absentee ballot, which I very carefully and specifically asked them to send me. Coincidence?? Bastards.

grassyknoll - 2004-11-03 07:54:54
Haha Unclebob, you and your wife were, what, two people fighing vigorously against Bush versus....what, 1.2 million Alabamans that pulled the lever for him? Don't feel bad, my state narrowly went for Kerry despite my whole family voting for Bush.....and THAT gave Frankenstein a LOT more electorals than yours, so it all works out in the end.

BigPimpinMBA - 2004-11-03 07:56:53
I saw a pimped-out Escalade creeping through my neighborhood last night. It stopped in front of my house and I think I saw P-Diddy checking a list in the driver's seat before moving along. I'm so glad I voted or who knows what could have happened? Heard some shots down the street, though. Poor bastards.

awittykitty - 2004-11-03 09:05:14
ya should have mentioned the naked Bush twin girls thing sooner, UB. You might have changed some votes, especially in states where they like underaged naked girls who drink.

Who's KUCINICH?

I'm sorry I must've been in the bathroom when someone was explaining why voting for a corpse was better than voting for a monkey. At least the monkey can do tricks and find yummy bananas if you get stuck on a desert island with him. All a corpse can do is sit there and draw worms.

nautile - 2004-11-03 09:26:27
Man, UB, you're lucky you're in one of two counties in Alabama that actually has the spiffy-diffy machines. I used to live in the only other other county that had them, but now I'm stuck with old-fashioned paper ballots again. I hate this state. We're in serious discussions about moving to Canada.

IV:XX - 2004-11-03 09:45:13
I don't get it, UB. How is Kerry giving Bush a taste of his own medicine when Gore was the one who challenged the vote in 2000? While I was not happy with either candidate, at least we will have a President that was able to garner the majority of the popular vote. That hasn't happened since 1988!
-------------------------------
tracy - 2004-11-03 11:42:58
Well, Kerry called Bush and conceded a couple minutes ago. This blows, really.

-------------------------------
Shan - 2004-11-03 12:14:17
to IV:XX: Just to be clear, that statement (which was made by the Bush campaign) was somewhat misleading. In '92 (43%) and '96 (49%) Clinton garnered the highest percent of the candidates for the popular vote. He didn't reach over 50% because those elections were entirely different. Perot was a popular candidate in both of those elections and was able to garner PV percentages in the double digits (especially in '92 where he recieved one-fifth of the popular vote.) If we had a true 3rd party in this country, it would be rare that any candidate would get over 50%. It happened this election because it was quite literally one or the other. Nader wasn't taken seriously this time around and wasn't even an option on a lot of state ballots.

I don't see how we can say that the Iraqi people aren't being liberated. Maybe we could get some soldiers on this message board who have been over there and ask what they think. And no, we CAN'T believe everything the media says about it.

Dawn (webmiztris) - 2004-11-03 13:19:19
Uncle Bob, you're now even more endeared to me now that I know you're not a Bush supporter. What the hell's WRONG with this country, Uncle Bob?
-------------------------------
IV:XX - 2004-11-03 13:22:08
To Shan - Just to be clear, no matter what kind of newfangled math you use, neither 43% nor 49% is a majority. And if memory serves me correctly, Perot siphoned his votes from Bush, most certainly costing him the election. So you see, my friend, it's all in how you want to spin it... As for me, I'm sick of all the spin
-------------------------------
Kelly2 - 2004-11-03 14:16:34
IV:XX, ditto that. Kerry spun it so bad that ulimately, it dug him right into the ground. However, his concession speech was very good, and I wish I could have heard him speak that way throughout the campaign. I would have come to my ultimate decision with alot more respect for him than I did. His speech was very gracious and heartfelt, and it showed.

state did its part to get the better man for the job, but all of the hokey states flubbed it up for the rest of the country. My biggest fear is that there will possibly be 4 seats in the Supreme Court coming up to be auctioned off to the biggest right-winged morons that can fill them. We're in for a serious regression to the dark ages, I fear.

For a group of folks who refer to themselves as open-minded, liberals sure do spout venom when their opinions aren't agreed with. I especially love the ones who refer to conservative people as morons, ignorant, stupid, and "having their heads in the sand". I hate to break it to you, folks, but you can't be open-minded if you aren't willing to listen to anyone else's opinion. And it doesn't make someone evil just because they don't agree with your ideas.
-------------------------------
erica - 2004-11-03 15:15:41
It only makes them evil when they try to make it a law.

IV:XX - 2004-11-03 15:58:03
I know what you mean, :-). It seems as though the more ideologically extreme someone is, the narrower their mind becomes. What's ironic is that both the far-left and the far-right have gone so far around their respective bends that they have met up with each other on the other side. The only difference between them is that one puts their enemies in "re-education" camps while the other puts their enemies in "concentration" camps. They are all so blind and stupid and full of themselves that you would think that the rest of us could figure out a way to get them to kill each other off! Ideas, anyone?

Mike - 2004-11-03 16:32:21
Well, excuse me if I get a little defensive when the election becomes a mandate to make some people second class citizens. When exit polls show that 80% of the people in Ohio that voted for Bush considered "social issues" (i.e. gay marriage and abortion) a main reason for their vote, it stings a bit. I don't feel they are stupid, but I feel they've been played. Abortion ain't going away folks. Check back in four years and see if Bush has done anything about that. His dad didn't. Eight years of Reagan, who was vastly more popular-- no change. And, ummm, our government already doesn't recognize gay marriage (and that was partly thanks to Clinton). Eleven states passed resolutions to ban gay marriage, many of them banning ANY form of civil unions or legal protection. Conservatives used you again to get out the evangelical and Christian vote because in all those states it was already illegal for gays to marry. Child molesters can marry. Murderers can marry. Deadbeat dads can marry and marry and marry, leaving behind their dimwitted spawn with no "traditional family" and for the rest of us to support. I don't even wanna marry some dude, but it's not OK for me because of the way I was born, and it's fine for some child molester or wifebeater to marry at will? Yeah, marriage is all sanctified and whatnot. That said, George's anti-gay, anti-choice stance didn't really decide my vote. I voted against the guy who invaded a country, costing thousands and thousands of lives and then made up a reason to justify it later. Iraq wasn't directly involved in 9/11. Iraq didn't have WMD. Sure, I agree the Iraqi people are better off without Hussein who killed and tortured hundreds, but you don't see us invading Sudan, where people are being slaughtered by the hundreds of thousands in a horrifying ethnic cleansing? And no I don't know for sure if Kerry could do a better job of cleaning up George's mess, but I don't think he would have done worse. God, I've never been more hopeful that I'm gonna be proven wrong.

Dana - 2004-11-03 16:56:57
Where exactly are the hokey states that Erica referred to?? I have no doubt that is a reference to the south. I live in the south, Louisiana to be exact, and I take offense at the very idea of being termed as hokey. And I guess you could say that flubbing it up for the rest of you is a matter of opinion, Erica. I say the best man won, deal with it!

fealty2dahriyah - 2004-11-03 16:57:16
both these dudes are fuckers. but we are really going to know how hard we are getting screwed when we have 3 new supreme court justices in the next 4 years. say hello Mccarthy, we have dug up your grave reanimated your corpse and we are letting you run rampant on every civil liberty, all in the name of terror prevention. so say good bye blog.... freaky sex(that includes the stinky pinkies w/ the twins)... good bye contra that chalks my bong. cuz these aholes are going to try and regulate everything, except business. becaue you know how well they keep our interests in mind. that's why the pharmy lab down the street pumping out oxycontin sells the exact same meds cheaper on the street or in europe than through your dr.
-------------------------------
Megan - 2004-11-03 17:39:08
HRT: at least you could eat the worms the corpse brings... We had a lose-lose situation. It was either nothing gets done (Kerry having a republican congress) or things get worse (Bush passing hurtful laws). Out of 33 countries polled, the US was the ONLY one who remotely wanted Bush to be reelected, that should tell you something. At least with Kerry there was still a chance at NATO not dropping out. Now we have no allies, because every country is pissed off at Bush. I only know 3 people that voted for him. And reinstating the draft? It is all just because he is planning on starting 3 more wars (I cant remember with whom though). I am not going to die for a country in which I have no say-so. And medicare, it was supposed to last until 2029, but in Bush's 4 years it dropped 10 YEARS. He also "borrowed" $1.6 trillion from the medicare treasury, and racked up another TRILLION in the national deficit (to put in perspective, it took the US over 100 years to get the first trillion in debt). And am I right or is my boss right on this: I said the tax cuts only help out the top 5% of Americans, most of which don't even PAY taxes. He said that the top 5% pays 90% of the taxes. Tax cuts really hurt us in the long run because that money has to be made up somewhere. Bush doesn't have a uterus, and until he starts popping babies out himself, he should have no say-so in the matter. And what is the big deal about gay marriage? If you truly love someone, you should be able to get married. Hell, you can marry an inanimate object if you choose..

Tanya - 2004-11-03 17:41:48

erica - 2004-11-03 17:57:00

-------------------------------
erica - 2004-11-03 18:02:53

Dana and Tanya, you are too fucking stupid to be allowed to live. I wish P. Didddy would also stop by all the homes of the people who voted for Bush. Goddamned, mutherfucking idiots that you are. I also notice the neither one of you had the balls to leave behind contact information...I guess your as yellow as the dickhead you voted for.
-------------------------------
Kelly - 2004-11-03 18:04:40
Megan, it tells me that only Americans can vote for an American president, and the opinions of 32 other countries does not count or matter. If those people want to decide who is in the White House, they can move here, get naturalized, pay American taxes, and vote. And everyone who pays taxes got a tax cut. And we all claimed that new income the following year. That might have had a more severe effect on lower income household than higher income households, but contrary to the "top 2% of Americans" theory, we all got them. I am not anywhere near the top 2% and most of the folks I know make less than my household, and they, too, got a tax cut. If you think you don't need the tax cut or don't want it, and want to donate your tax cut back to the economy, then donate it on your tax return. There is a specific line item for you to do that.
-------------------------------
cat - 2004-11-03 18:06:02

-------------------------------
Mike - 2004-11-03 18:37:22
Yeah, the tax cut was excellent-- a few hundred bucks for the Gilligans and a few hundred THOUSAND for the Thurston Howells. And at least Bush won't raise taxes like Kerry would have, right? But wait, how are we financing this war then? Oh, that's right. We're not. Instead, we're just running up the largest deficit ever in the history of this country: half a TRILLION dollars this year and another half a TRILLION dollars next year.

Shan - 2004-11-03 18:59:57
IV:XX - Darlin' you need to settle down. I was basically illustrating that spin IS a ridiculous thing. (I personally don't care who you voted for as long as you voted, so please don't try any of that "liberal"-labelling nonsense with me.) My exact words were thus: "highest percent of the candidates" - Simply meaning that it's much harder to have a true majority when there are 3 strong candidates instead of 2. Clinton's wins then were no less valid than Bush's was yesterday. Which is what I believe that comment was insinuating. If we had a strong 3rd party in this election there probably wouldn't have been a "true majority" (if that's what your so hung up about) this time around either. Why is it that no one can have an intelligent respectful discourse about politics anymore?

OH CRAP, I CAN'T. Good going voting process.
-------------------------------
IV:XX - 2004-11-03 19:46:48
Shan: Sweetheart, don't be so defensive. I was just pointing out that in this particular election a majority of the voters cast their ballot for a particular individual. In politics, when one side gets that vote, they refer to it as a mandate. So, for the first time in sixteen years, we have a clearly elected executive. (With a man date. I thing his name is Dick. Or maybe Karl. Could be both.) And I don't recall labelling anybody or being disrespectful of anybody but Erica, who seems to think that anybody who disagrees with her is a 'hokey'. Whatever that is. - As for me, I'm voting for Kucinich so that I can fire up a fattie and forget all this stuff.

IV:XX - 2004-11-03 19:54:05
Erica: Tolerant = people like me that put up with people like you without wishing that they were dead or locked up. Intolerant = erica. Oh, I'm sorry, maybe you couldn't read that, with the correct spelling and all. Let me try again. 'Intollerent = U'.

Oh yeah, about those tax refunds and no new taxes and how we can still finance the war-- in their first move after winning the election: The Bush administration announced Wednesday that it will run out of maneuvering room to manage the government's massive borrowing needs in two weeks, putting more pressure on Congress to raise the debt ceiling when it convenes for a special post-election session.
-------------------------------
erin - 2004-11-03 21:23:57
Just because liberals call themselves open-minded, doesn't mean that we should just take things lying down. I'm disgusted with how the current administration runs things, and I have plenty to say about the current state. Yes, I'm open-minded, and I respect other viewpoints. However, that doesn't stop me from voicing an opinion when I think something is wrong.

Fred - 2004-11-04 04:35:53
To quote Kelly: " it tells me that only Americans can vote for an American president, and the opinions of 32 other countries does not count or matter. If those people want to decide who is in the White House, they can move here, get naturalized, pay American taxes, and vote". Actually, through no fault of our own, this election will directly effect Australian life. Our PM is a huge embarrassment who loves the taste of W's butt. It's only a matter of time before Bush's decisions impact on us. We just had our elections too, and while we don't have "republicans", our version got in, despite the best efforts of the open-minded. Surely Americans realise they were voting for the "King of the World"? You are the superduper power. Far reaching implications, I tells ya...

IV:XX-Sorry for the misspelling. You're right, you're very tolerant as is evident in your "They are all so blind and stupid and full of themselves that you would think that the rest of us could figure out a way to get them to kill each other off!" statement. Aren't you just full of irony? Bugging cat about correcting you and yet you correct me? I'd have a lot more respect for people who are firm in what they believe than for hypocrites such as yourself.

IV:XX - 2004-11-04 15:15:53
Erica: Please note that cat was correcting her own earlier post. As for my statement that we would be better off if the extreme left and right eliminated each other, I meant that as a kind of comical "reductio ad absurdum". Intolerand AND humorless. You're* quite the catch! BTW, I looked through my posts and haven't seen anything blatantly hypocritical, so maybe you should define "hypocritical" more clearly for us mere 'hokies'.
