Wow, UB had an uncle that was just as qualified (if not more than) John Kerry to be commander in chief... I thought of our vetereans yesterday, and took a moment to realize that American soilders today, are fighting and dying. Politics aside, there are those who stand in harms way, willing to die for your freedom. Perhaps your son wont have to fight in a war because of someone elses son who died today fighting today.

I had to work too, but the kid's school and daycare were closed. So, I had to pay for someone to watch him all day while I went to work. Yay, Veterans Day ...

I dunno I think most people see rememberance day as a day to remember all those that have died in all wars pointless and otherwise. ALL those that died. Those sent to fight (such a lovely way of putting it, I don't suppose it's as nice to say, those sent to kill other people), those killed in uniform and those killed because of bad luck, wrong place in the wrong time, bit of a b*gger if the wrong place happens to be your breakfast table or in your bed at night. Wars are always horrible, only ever redeemed by the reasons for going to war, maybe that was something to remember on rememberance day.

And Uncle Bob cut off all of his hair so he could buy his wife a new Chain for her pocketwatch. UB's wife sold her pocketwatch so she could buy him some pretty bows for his hair.

Wait. That wasn't Aesop. Shit.

I laughed when I read you entry. I have not been in Walmart in over a year, but yes! I confess! I WAS there yesterday. (I still hate that store)

Wow... I'd vote for UB's uncle in a second. I was working, and I bet that Vet's day is the day the postal workers stay home and clean their guns and mumble to themselves like the guy from Office Space

Veterans day is for Vets. To remember and thank them for protecting our country. Ok. Then why was almost every attorneys office closed when none of them were in a war. Why can't I get mail. Thanks to all Veterans and remembering ones who didn't come back. But I want my TV Guide and unless my mailperson was in a war, give it to me.

I understand having a day to remember the veterans, I just don't understand why everything is shut down. Having a ceremony out in front of city hall only takes 5 minutes. I think a real veteran's day activity should include picking up HOMELESS vets standing out by highway exits with "I'm hungry" signs and bringing them to Denney's for a meal. Now that would really be honoring them.

I worked...but I teach, so we actually had a 45-minute assembly honoring the veterans.

I work in an attorney's office and we were open. Although it probably doesn't count because it's a public interest group (i.e., non-profit, help the poor & elderly) so it doesn't fit the normal lawyer demographic. In fact, I didn't even know it was Veteran's Day until I went to work and they said it was so quiet because of Veteran's Day. I honestly didn't notice ... I didn't even notice the mail because I forgot to get the mail on Wednesday, so there was mail for me yesterday. There might as well have been no holiday as far as I was concerned, it totally didn't affect my day. I totally didn't think about veterans either, but I am now.

i had to work explaining why cable tv looks like shit on a $5000 LCD TV to a crazy lady who after i explained it would say that she understood, but still... WHY DOES IT LOOK LIKE SHIT?!?!! this went on for 8 hours. after a 3 hour drive up to the job and then with a 3 hour drive back. and then there's the hour and a half each way to the shop that i work at. all day in total? 17 hours. in the rain. on the highway. with a leg-humping farter. please. kill. myboss..... (and not me)

You might want to call the owners of that club, Uncle Bob. I have never, ever heard of a bar being closed for Veterans Day. I mean, what else do you do with an extra day off in the middle of the week? I'm sure not hangin' out at the Wal-Mart. I can't think of anybody who would fight a war for the freedom to shop at Wal-Mart. Now, the freedom to get drunk in the middle of the day, in the middle of the week -- THAT is an inalienable right!

A holiday like Veteran's Day would carry more weight if most retail chains shut down on that day as well. Otherwise, it's just another way to celebrate that American institution more precious than freedom -- consumerism.

Veterans Day suffers because its observation does not "float" to the nearest Monday. I would agree to a change.

Woah the doctors took off on veterens day??? What if someone died or became deathly ill on that day?!?! wow. That's really weird though! Here everyone works on Veterens day except the students. By the way, I am a reader just passing through... thought you were interesting. Bye!

Hey, I am all FOR Veteran's Day. My man was sent to Nam as a teenager to kill for our country....it may not have been a popular war, and he sure as hell didn't want to go, but damn he DID go, and I cannot in all honesty say I would have had the courage to do what he did. SO I say, bring the Vets a day and shaddup about it...

I am for Veteran's Day. I had relatives that served, and now my son will be going into the Navy.
