Kids are funny. My son told me the other day he wanted to be a motorcycle when he grows up. Not HAVE a motorcycle, BE a motorcycle. He was very clear on that point. I hope he enjoys his stocking full of carrots.

Tell him that *he* can get carrots to leave for the reindeer. Then he still has some quality carrot-contact time and you can still work it into the story.

Carrots is a great idea! and cheap too

I'm glad to hear that I'm not the only one who has these same exact one-sided conversations. If Andrew isn't into the Thomas trains, my Thomas-obsessed boy would certainly like them. Those freakey-faced trains cost a friggin fortune.

Andy - 2004-11-18 08:49:23
Maybe he wants diamonds? Either that, or he's just wierd.

liz - 2004-11-18 08:49:59
Maybe he was saying karats. Maybe he's into the bling bling already.

Classic! My kids won't eat carrots. What a great idea tho, if my kids don't start picking up their toys they WILL get carrots for Christmas.

When my sister was two or three, my parents asked her what she wanted for Christmas (we have it on tape...), and she said something that sounded like "beer." My dad said, "You want BEER for Christmas?!" And my brother said, "I think she said 'beard'." And my dad said, "You want a BEARD?!" And my sister said, "YES! A beard! On my face!" Tee hee. Kids are so cute. :) She's 22 now, but I still tease her.

Amber - 2004-11-18 09:21:18
Man, I wish I could get off that cheap for Christmas! My six year old asks for everything she sees on TV.

Andy - 2004-11-18 09:32:27
YOu know Uncle Bob, in my familly when time's were tough, we used to make our own gifts for each other. I am pretty sure you could make up some great toys for Andrew. What kid wouldn't want the latest newest, coolist toy on the block..."Bag O' Pee!" (cue Ren and Stimply "Log" comercial"

Drew - 2004-11-18 09:34:25
Make it a food Christmas - rabbit food for the kid and the UncleBob Salami for momma.

Do you need ANY more proof that your son is going to be a Pole Smoker when he grows up, Boobie?

Sandra - 2004-11-18 10:12:42
At least you don't have to scream like a rabid beast and dodge projectiles when you drive your 4-year-old home from school. Mine will be damn lucky to get carrots this year.

When I was younger I once asked for a large chest (as in a sea chestor treaure chest). I'd always thought they were cool. Well my mother was shocked that I wanted a large chest as she (incorectly) assumed I wanted boobies. As in "Mom, I'd like to have a boob job...and a sex change"

I think the best present would be a Red Ryder BB gun.

I'm on board with Veggie Tales, Maybe he wants one of the Carrot charactars, or maybe he just wants to be difficult.

You think maybe somebody's been talking to him about giving poor people food for Christmas? That sounds like a conversation that might result -- he's feeling guilty because some poor kids don't have carrots for Christmas and he wants to give them some. Or something. The four year old mind is a great mystery.

Lee - 2004-11-18 12:10:54
My little brother said he wanted a dog for Christmas one year. Presto, one puppy present. His eyes got big, and he said "wow - that's the biggest dog I ever saw". A few years later, it was discovered he actually wanted a *guinea pig*, but didn't know what they were called. His default word was "dog", I guess.

May I suggest that you ask him what he wants to do with the carrots?

Jen - 2004-11-18 13:22:02
www.radiatorlady.diary-x.com - Why all the questioning??? The kid wants CARROTS, you're broke as a joke from car troubles... what's the damn problem? I'd be doing the Snoopy Dance if my non-existent kid asked for carrots. He could have said a swingset or a pool or some shit. Carrots. The kid wants carrots. I say hallelujah. I also wanted to point out that when Andrew first guessed Grandma and you said, "Noooo. He comes at Christmas time," I truly thought you meant Grandma was a man who comes to visit during the holidays. Enjoy.

erica - 2004-11-18 14:40:57
I think the kid just wants some carrots. The 4 year old mind isn't that great of a mystery, pretty much it's very blunt and to the point. Or maybe that's just my 4 year old. Anyway, I'd say give him 1 carrot, make it from Santa, and give all the actual good stuff from you.

What rolls down stairs and over the chairs and into your neighbor's dog? It fits on your back, It's good for a snack, Everyone knows it's log. It's log, it's log, It's big, it's heavy, it's wood. It's log, it's log, it's better than bad, it's good.

now you have to do last minute shopping... otherwise he'll see them in the fridge and it wont be a suprise... and you dont want to leave them out for to long... warm carrots are no good... they need to be crunchy and cold...
