Trust me to be away from my desk when I got the warning there was a new entry. DAG'NAMMIT!!! (a word not used often enough)

There are lots of good looking people in Canada! Just none of us make the news LOL. Have a great day :) Carrie

Supporter of Terri - 2005-03-22 08:11:07
Terri Schiavo isn't on life support. If machines were breathing for her, if they were making her heart beat for her, then I wouldn't have as much of an issue with it. Her husband (who BTW was living with another woman only 6 months after his wife was put in the hospital), wants to LITERALLY starve her to death. That's where I take issue. http://www.terrisfight.net/

Don't be hatin', playa.

Check this out: http://www.mbl.is/mm/frettir/frett.html?nid=1130763, this is an Icelandic Newspaper called Morgunblai. And look, a picture of her husband...and his name beneath ;)

Courtney - 2005-03-22 08:36:24
It is all about the media market size. If Terri Schiavo lived in Montana or Michigan, no one would have ever heard of her. Because people in the fly-over don't have television, do they?
-------------------------------
Kathy - 2005-03-22 08:42:44
And here I was, just writing about the fact that there's been a relatively small amount of coverage of our high school shooting in Minnesota - that's at an Indian Reservation. Coverage of Columbine was constant. We've got 10 dead and there was no interruption of an Oprah rerun when it happened. Just news at normal news time. And what's the deal with all these Right to Lifers denying Ms. Schiavo her place in heaven? Won't she have more fun there then sitting in a hospital gown on earth? Silly Right to Lifers!

Remember Jessica Lynch? Yeah, well, an overweight black female solder was taken hostage as well. Terrible things happened to her as well.....there was a small blurb on it on page 10....Also, Jon Benet......a young black girl in Chicago was murdered in a similar way....no one knows about her & the news penned her as "Girl X". It's bullshit, really. Yet they still talk about Benet....WTF. Thank you Bob, for pointing put the obvious.....makes me ashamed to be here sometimes.

IV:XX - 2005-03-22 09:26:33
I was waiting for someone to point out that the OTHER thing those victims had in common was that they were all white. We are a sad, sad world. It's not just in 'Merica - it's everywhere.
-------------------------------
Steph - 2005-03-22 09:32:53
Okay Bob - What's your issue with Canadians? Really. Have you ever been to Canada? Lots of good looking people here (and a heck of a lot slimmer than people in Alabama). ahem carry on... Love you, Love your hair.....

Tenshi - 2005-03-22 09:45:56
Can you guarantee that she will indeed be going to heaven - if there is a heaven? And she'll smell cinnamon, because that's what Jesus smells like. (http://www.theksbwchannel.com/news/4304945/detail.html) >< ANNNNDD do they really have to put this shit on the television while I'm eating dinner? :\

yeah kathy, its only the first story on cnn.com

I'm ready to make my comeback. Now, I know I'll just do it in Canada because ugly people count there.

If only attractive people matter in the US, then could someone kindly explain Sarah Jessica Parker?
-------------------------------
Andy - 2005-03-22 10:18:43
So what are you saying UB? That we should give equal time to the ugly people?

That's just crazy talk.
-------------------------------
erin - 2005-03-22 10:18:56
Kathy's point was not that it's not on the news, but that they aren't interuppting regular programming for it. When Columbine happened, they had constant live coverage on almost all the stations. It wasn't just the top story on the news, but rather it WAS the news.
-------------------------------
JChen - 2005-03-22 10:26:13
Yeah, her point is definitely valid, I was mostly just being a smartass.
-------------------------------
Urp - 2005-03-22 10:30:01
Michael. It's Michael Schiavo.

DogFartMan - 2005-03-22 10:33:57
Unca Bob, you just totally rule. I want you to write the newspaper for my town. The whole friggin' thing! Think you can crank out 16 pages of this, every day for the rest of my life? Please? I'll give you Sunday off. And, um, you want have to write the Classifieds either.

Kathy2 - 2005-03-22 10:41:39
Just a reminder to all of you who don't want to be in that situation, there are health-care power of attorneys. I sure would want someone to let me die if I were in that situation. What the heck kind of life is that, she's brain dead? Let her die and go to be with the Lord (yes, I believe). I can't understand all the fuss either, but I see ole George Bush's face on the news and I'm so sure the "ethical thing will be done" Ick....its all just too weird, but that's life I suppose. Thanks UB, great entry.

deborah - 2005-03-22 10:50:27
Yanno what's ironic? The people ranting on about "sanctity of marriage" are the same damn people who don't believe Terri's husband is the person who knows her wishes.
-------------------------------
Dea - 2005-03-22 14:45:47
How can the husband still have the right to say what Terri needs and wants if he has re-married? Shouldn't her parents who are still loyal to her make the descion? Bob Canadians are beautiful people. Me especially!

Dea - 2005-03-22 14:45:59

how can Mr. Husband have the right to make this descion when he is re-married? And Canadians are hot!

fifi - 2005-03-22 14:56:07
Irony? A land where murderers get a lethal jab. And an innocent woman can take weeks to die slowly from dehydration. Oh, wait, that's humanity?
-------------------------------
Elise - 2005-03-22 15:00:17
It's powers of attorney because it's more than one power, not the power of more than one attorney. Sorry to sound so snotty about it, but it happens to be one of my pet peeves. Okay, i'm done playing grammar nazi. UB, keep rocking.

April Ann - 2005-03-22 15:06:27
Someone mentioned Lynch. *twitch* How do supply clerks become heroes? They gotta be cute. Good ol' 507th (in my husband's brigade). And yeah, Shoshana Johnson didn't get as much attention, and she went through that like a true ghetto mama.
-------------------------------
Fuzzy Grey - 2005-03-22 16:15:27
Also... Terry Schiavo isn't attractive at all. So, I wasn't sure how that segued into only beautiful people get airtime...but whatever... this is your page... I am...just visiting. Also, I don't know if someone has already mentioned this, but you were wondering out loud about Hunter S. Thompson's suicide awhile back-Hunter more and more frequently had to use a wheelchair, his health was starting to fail, and he just wasn't going out like that... so while there was no one illness killing him, you were correct in your assumption that he wasn't letting God choose when he would leave.
-------------------------------
Nero - 2005-03-22 17:32:34
Canadians are TOTALLY hot. We allow ugly people to live here only because we don't want our reputation of being abhorrently polite to fall by the wayside. Thanks, eh?

Hank - 2005-03-22 18:51:18
If she dies, the GOP can have her stuffed and she can be a star at the next convention!

Terri Schiavo's Poodle Groomer - 2005-03-22 19:22:42
What the hell was that?
-------------------------------
Dave B - 2005-03-22 19:34:01
Sure, there is atleast one good looking person from Canada. His name is Alan Thicke.
-------------------------------
Halo Askew - 2005-03-22 19:59:12
Hell, the media STILL talks about Ted Bundy, and the first thing they mention is how HANDSOME he was. And oh yeah, he was a homicidal manic too. I personally never figured out why people thought he was so good-looking. Then again, considering what men looked like in the 70's, perhaps I must reconsider. And one more thing: Am I the only one who thinks that BTK's mug shot looks eerily like Jack Nicholson? (I can't quite figure out if that's a bad or a good thing).
-------------------------------
stella - 2005-03-22 21:04:55
I think April Ann referencing Shoshonna Johnson as a ghetto mama is one of the funniest things I've read all day. It's so true. And as for those Canadians, Jewel is Canadian. Oh wait a minute, she just smiled. Never mind.
-------------------------------
catgut - 2005-03-22 22:03:51
Dea, Michael Schiavo has NOT remarried. He is still married to Terri, but is shacking up with another woman and has children with her.
-------------------------------
Kara - 2005-03-22 23:37:32
There is nothing wrong with us Canucks. I must admit, though, I was disappoint (yet slightly amused) to see the cover story on the Toronto Star was a 16-year-old Canadian who had been held in prison in Greece for picking up a stone (apparently she disturbed an "antiquity"). It should have been the shootings in Minnesota (even if we aren't American). Instead, that story was buried later on in the paper.
