I watched the pilot episode of Little Britain. It didn't think it was funny at all. So yeah, I'd like to be enlightened, too.

Good Morning! I'm #4!

I'm British and I can't bear Little Britain. Watch Extras or Spaced or Bill Bailey instead.

They need a show called Little Alabama following the days and wild nights of one UB and his HellSpawn Industrial Smoke-Machine... rock on

Osniffable - 2005-08-22 09:44:20
so wait, is the riding mower her new car?

the funniest thing to come out of the UK in years was a sketch comedy program called "Brilliant" (or "The Fast Show", over there). is it available on DVD? Hell, no... they're hoarding that fucker like it was the Second Coming or something.

Plants UB!! You need plants in your back yard! It's neeeeked! plants=less yard to mow! And where's yer hammock? Can't be a total lawnmower ridin' redneck without a hammock to sleep in after yer whole 30 minutes of mowerin' yer yard!

Hey UB...I have been reading your blog for a while now, it's great. I have a DJ question for you: Is it customary to tip a DJ, on top of the fee that you are paying? If yes, how much and why?

I don't actually have anything to say ... I think lately I'm just commenting on principle. It's sad, really.

Watch "Black Books". You can get DVD of at least the first 2 series. Dylan Moran, very funny guy. Little Britain is getting a lot of awards, media attention etc here in the UK, but it is good in parts, and an acquired taste. Congrats on the nice new mower.

If you like "Undeclared", the same guy made a show called "Freaks and Geeks", so another DVD set to check out. Entertaining. Judd also has a new movie out called "40 Year Old Virgin". So there you go.

Also, you should try and see" The Green Wing', which was on UK channel 4. As well as the excellent Tamsin Greig, from 'Black Books', it has Michelle Gomez, who is the funniest woman I have ever seen on TV. Funny and sexy don't usually work, but she is.

I'm also British and cannot STAND Little Britain. It's such a load of bollocks and I have no idea why it's been made such a big deal of: the skits are trying desperately to be funny and just aren't. I agree massively with Lucy: try Spaced and/or Bill Bailey. They're a little odd at first, but worth it. The people who did Spaced have also done the comedy zombie film Sean of the Dead ( http://www.shaunofthedeadmovie.com/splash.html ) which is FANTASTIC. Give them a go!

Hiya, You have to give "Little Britain" a chance. The first time I watched it, I thought it was crapola, but I watched it again a few months late and nearly peed myself from laughing. So my advice is give it a month or two, and try it again. The earlier episodes aren't as funny as the later ones.

I got my "Undeclared" DVDs on Friday - I loved the show (as well as "Freaks & Geeks") and couldn't believe when it got cancelled. I was impressed by the fact that every episode has commentary - although some are clearly more entertaining than others. I'd have paid the same amount of money for the "Hal & Hillary" episode alone, just because of the 'Monkeyshines.' I'm kind of glad that Judd Apatow has moved into movies ("Anchorman" and "40 Year Old Virgin") because at least now he doesn't have to get cancelled every other year because networks won't commit to promotion or a timeslot.

you want funny british sitcom dvds? go to ebay and buy the 3 seasons (or any of them, really) of _one foot in the grave_. it's about a cranky old man forced into early retirement, and all the wacky hijinx he gets into because he's bored out of his tree. it's fantastic. you will NOT be disappointed.

Jane - 2005-08-23 08:29:55
I think it's hilarious you think that's a big backyard. Have fun with the rider mower.

Bonni - 2005-08-23 08:37:33
Nepenthean - one foot in the grave? Yeah, funny, but ridiculously old. Fifi's right, Green Wing is the best thing on UK tv for a while, and Black Books rocks too! Little Britain... meh. Take it or leave it. Happy mowing, UB!

I would happily send my dog to meetings if it meant I could sleep and lick my ass at a 90/10 ratio. He's also more than welcome to my watch.

Squeakzilla - 2005-08-23 10:25:37
You should've called Susie to wrangle the freshmen with the riding mower. Does your Fire Dept issue nuisance citations? Just something to think about.

maleesha - 2005-08-23 11:14:09
yeah...so don't get the whole "little britain" thing either...but my brothers apparently find it hillarious - whatever. Also agree with the greatness of "black books"...I have three series - Dylan Moran does the grumpy irish sot so well. Another good series is Red Dwarf...I know that at least the first six series are available.

I'm British, well English specifically, but I moved to the States years ago so I don't live in England and can't give you an opinion. You're Welcome. I'm just here to help. And take up real estate in your comments.

clearly, the fog machine from hell doesn't belong in church either! ;)

nepenthean-I love that word- One Foot was very funny, and Victor Meldrew used to remind me so much of my irascible Dad! Black Books will stand the test of time too, I think.

Elyse - 2005-09-10 09:48:09
Man, I think Little Britain is HILARIOUS. The DVD lets you play all the sketches of one character sequentially- watch the Dame Sally ones. Matt Lucas (the fat gay one with alopecia - true!) plays this awesome lazy old lady authoress...it's comedy.
