Oh well. Your son's bedroom turned out REALLY nice! One out of two ain't bad. On my computer screen the red looks just a little too Christmasy. I think if you had gone with more of a royal red or burgundy red, it might be okay. Maybe that type of red will easily cover the Christmas red. Might be easier to try that first, rather than trying to paint a light color over it.

Toss in a few lava lamps, a strobe light in the ceiling, and some bright neon lime green throw pillows on the couch and call it Retro. Pure genius!

Wow. That's more annoying than a pork tornado entry. If the wife is sold on a red, maybe go with more of a maroon color, and do only 1 wall (an accent wall) and the rest of the room with neutral color?

What Bunny said, if you must go red, but wouldn't a dark blue go better with that sofa? WTF do I know and who asked me in the first place?

With that color, you kinda expect a bunch of hookers sitting on the couch waiting for customers, Uncle Bob. Just an observation Uncle Bob, just an observation.

I've been through the whole red paint thing. I suggest going to Lowe's and buying Posh Red. It's awesome. I'll post a pick this afternoon if I can and send the link to you.

Not a color I'd pick for a room in my house, but I must say it certainly looks festive in your house. I'm from Canada and have wondered why the weddings in the south end so early. A traditional wedding here involves, cermony around 2 to 3 pm, cocktails at the hall / hotel or wherever the reception is going to be at 5:00pm, dinner at 6:00 or 7:00 pm speeches right after and a dance from 9:00 til 2:00 am. DJ's are generally at the reception playing 'dinner' music at the cocktail hour through dinner and then alls quiet during toasts and speeches then it's cut the cake and party time. You getting home from the last wedding at 10:30 pm.. I don't get it. What's a typical wedding in the southern US?

hi UB! I picked out what I thought was Chinese Red for my kitchen. Started it out and kindof looked just like that... it SCREAMED at me. I brought the can and stir stick back to Home Depot and it matched exactly Home Depot Orange on the counter! No rich Chinese Red! UGH. You need something with more blue in the red... like a crimson, or wine.... ugh. My eyes are bleeding. Or put up a chair rail half way up, paint the lower half darker crimson, and put pictures on the top half.... just a thought. YOU CAN DO IT BOBBY!

Im with 'Me' up there, our wedding sure are different to yours. Im in the UK, and here the guests wouldnt DARE leave until the bitter end (unless they had small children with them, then it would kind of be OK). It would be unusual for the reception to finish before midnight - even if the bride and groom have already left for their honeymoon! s x PS Tried to think of something kind to say about the red. Failed miserably.

Oooh, the trim in my bedroom was that colour for many years. It went well with the black of the walls. :P

What the hell's the matter with the color?! It's bright and fun - how goddamn boring are you people with your "navy" and "neutral" colors - fucking live a little! Any designer from HGTV would fucking love that color, UB, and call you a hero for going out of the box. Throw in some Ralph Lauren "Aragon" leopard and you're home, baby!!

A couple of years ago the Mrs. went out of town for the weekend and I decided to surprise her by painting the laudry room "terra cotta". When she got home she shrieked, I HATE ORANGE, WHY DID YOU PAINT THE LAUNDRY ROOM BRIGHT ORANGE???? I tried to explain to her that it was not orange, but was terra cotta, however it did not help my case when eveyone who walked in the house agreed that the color, was in fact, bright f*&$& orange. Denial--it's not just a river in Egypt. It stayed bright orange for three years. I finally gathered the strength to re-paint the room this past spring. What color? WHITE.

Okay, UB, I get it. . .you're bringing Mexi back!

deborah - 2007-08-02 11:22:43
If you want red, get burgundy or wine, but I agree with Squeakzilla - a rich, dark blue would be better. Or better yet, a dark brown (especially if you wanted to stay with warmer colours) would be lovely.

oh Jezus! Good luck covering that up! (and don't forget to let us know how it goes) But the couch - couch is good.

My kitchen/family room is Pittsburgh Paint's "Pizza Pie" (like a terra cotta dusty orangy-red) and everyone loves it, but I think for and office and with the colors of your furniture you might need to go burgundy-ish. It'll be easier than changing to blue, which would also look good.

julee - 2007-08-03 15:51:04
it's not bad - it kinda grows on you ;-) i suggest one more coat though (just what you wanted to hear) and add a couple of pillows on the coach with red in them to "tie" it all together - ditch the blue chair

margy - 2007-08-03 21:21:39
OUCH! You would NOT want to walk into that room with a hang-over... hey a song just popped into my head "My future's so bright, I gotta wear shades!"

Dude ... Red is hard as Hades to paint over, but I love my red kitchen. Its not the bright red your office is though.
